Cover Girls: An evening of book design with Sarah and Schooling

Designers Alison Schooling and Sarah Tang will be sharing how designing literary books requires four different viewpoints (the author, publisher, designer and you, the reader).

An ardent supporter of Singapore’s literary scene, “Sarah and Schooling” is actively involved in designing books and publications across multiple genres. Since their founding in 2013, they have been responsible for nearly a hundred original literary titles over the past three years, spanning the genres of poetry, prose, plays, graphic novels and aesthetic collections. Their capabilities and experience stretch beyond publications, reaching other creative disciplines such as visual identity and branding, art directing, editorial design, web design, copywriting, and conducting workshops.

If you’ve picked up a recent work of literature written by a Singaporean and published by a Singapore-based press, you have a very good chance of picking up a book designed by “Sarah and Schooling”.

Notable examples of their work include Singapore Literature Prize winner, Joshua Ip’s Making Love with Scrabble Tiles (Math Paper Press, 2014), historically significant titles such as The Collected Poems of Arthur Yap (NUS Press, 2013), Gopal Baratham’s series of books including A Candle Or The SunSayangThe Collected Short Stories and Moonrise, Sunset (Marshall Cavendish, 2014).
